Project Overview:

FRP Deck Manufacturer: Composite Advantage
Engineer of Record: KCI Technologies
Contractor: Flippo Construction
Owner: District DOT

Project Description:

Located in the Georgetown area, a decaying bridge over the historic C&O canal was replaced with steel girders and FRP deck.  This design minimized the bridge height to allow tour boats to pass underneath.  An FRP sidewalk was installed on one side of the deck.

The deck size measures 39.5 feet by 32.2 feet, and each deck panel measures 7.9 feet by 32.2 feet. The deck is 5.4 inches deep, and the total area of the deck surface is 1,270 square feet.

The surface of the bridge has an asphalt overlay. The products used in this installation were prefabricated FRP bridge deck panels that were bolted to welded shear studs.
