Project Overview:

FRP Deck Manufacturer: Composite Advantage
Engineer of Record: Ohio DOT District 8
Contractor: Mainline Road and Bridge, Inc.
Owner: Greene County Parks

Project Description:

This truss bridge is part of an extensive bicycle trail system in Greene County, Ohio.  Large FRP deck panels were installed on the steel truss superstructure near the site. The bridge was fully assembled with deck and fencing and lifted into place.  The combination of FRP deck on weathering steel truss was selected to eliminate maintenance costs for the owner.

The deck size measures 142 by 12 feet, and each deck panel measures 35 feet by 12 feet. The deck is 2.4 inches deep, and the total area of the deck surface is 1704 square feet.

The surface of the bridge deck was coated with an epoxy aggregate non-slip overlay. The products used in this installation were prefabricated FRP bridge deck panels, attached to the steel superstructure using mechanical fasteners and clips.
